Barnett assumes Sorrento police clerical position

SORRENTO - The Town Council voted to have assistant town clerk Fern Barnett take over the duties of the police department clerk in a special meeting Friday.

Barnett will handle those duties until a replacement is hired for the position.

The council voted 4 to 1 during the session to discharge Police Clerk Tracy Loupe from her job after previously giving her an opportunity to attend anger management classes and retain the position.

Councilman Larry Lee was the only member to oppose Loupe’s termination.

Members also voted to change the police clerk position to a clerical position.

Several council members and Mayor Brenda Melancon complained in recent months that Loupe used excessive profanity while on duty, leading to a recent executive session where members agreed to let her attend an anger management program.
