Woman dies in head-on collision in Ascension Parish

Staff reports

A Pierre Part woman was killed in a head-on collision early this morning in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police spokesperson Trooper Russell Graham.

Claire E. Alleman, 20, died around 1 a.m. in the crash, Graham said.

Alleman was driving west on Hwy. 70 west of Hwy. 22 in a 2007 Chevrolet car when it was struck head-on by a 2006 Toyota Tundra driven by Randall Ambeau, 24, of Geismar, Graham reported.

Alleman's car spun in the roadway and came to a rest in a ditch, Graham said. Ambeau's vehicle rolled and came to a stop on its roof in the roadway, he said.

Both Ambeau and his passenger, 18-year-old Whitney Jones of Thibodaux, were properly restrained, Graham reported. They both survived the crash with minor to moderate injuries.

Alleman died as a result of her injuries despite being properly restrained, Graham said.

Troopers do not suspect alcohol use in the crash, but blood was taken from both drivers for chemical analysis.

State Police charged Ambeau with negligent homicide, negligent injuring and driving left of center, according to Graham. He said Ambeau will be booked into the Ascension Parish Jail upon his release from St. Elizabeth Hospital.
