Sign painter electrocuted, dies in Gonzales
A painter working in the bucket of a hydraulic lift was electrocuted Thursday while painting the big sign in front of the Taco Bell on Airline Highway in Gonzales, Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson said.
According to witnesses at the scene, J.W. Culverhouse, 22, of Franklin, Ky., hit a powerline near the sign with his head and was electrocuted, Jackson said.
Culverhouse fell back into the bucket after striking the wire, Jackson said.
The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. during heavy afternoon traffic.
Culverhouse was pronounced dead around 5 p.m. after being transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital, the chief said.
