Rescue crews work to save two victims in St. Amant car crash

Staff reports
Emergency responders rescue two victims from a car that crashed Saturday in St. Amant.

Several area emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle accident that seriously injured a driver Saturday in St. Amant, according to St. Amant Fire Chief James E. LeBlanc.

A Ford Mustang crashed into a tree along the shoulder of Hwy. 22, LeBlanc said. The car made impact with several trees, which caused some difficulties for the rescue teams to get the driver out of the wreckage, according to LeBlanc.

Due to the location of the crash, crews took about 30 minutes to remove the driver from the scene. A small child also was involved in the accident, LeBlanc said.

The driver was taken by air to a local hospital, and the child was transported by a ambulance, he said.

Agencies responding to the emergency included:  Ascension Parish Rescue Team II, St. Amant Fire Department, Maurepas Fire Department, Sorrento Fire Department, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies, Louisiana State Police troopers and Acadian Ambulance.
