Troopers suspect alcohol in fatal crash

Staff reports

Alcohol may have been a factor in an early-morning crash in Ascension Parish that killed a Baton Rouge woman.

Danielle Dempsey, 19, of Baton Rouge, died in a single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 74 near Hwy. 928. around 4 a.m. Friday, according to Louisiana State Police spokesperson Trooper Russell Graham.

Dempsey was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry east on Hwy. 74, approaching Bluff Road, when the vehicle entered a left curve and ran off the higway to the right, Graham said. The car rotated clockwise, rolled onto the passenger side and struck a tree, according to Graham.

Troopers noted that Dempsey was not wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Graham said.

A blood sample was taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis. Troopers suspect alcohol may have been a factor, according to Graham.
