Two booked after narcotics drug bust, chase in Prairieville Sept. 17

PRAIRIEVILLE – Two local men were arrested Sept. 17 following an undercover narcotics operation where the suspects tried to run over agents while attempting to flee the scene of the bust.
Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said in a release the operation took place on Henderson Bayou Road where the target, Kerwin Jones, 29, of 38551 Hwy. 42, was to deliver a quantity of “crack” cocaine.
During the operation, the identity of narcotic agents approaching Jones’ vehicle was compromised when Jones’ driver, Jordan York, 19, of 17225 Franklin Road, recognized law enforcement at the scene, the sheriff said.
York then backed out of the driveway at a high rate of speed, attempting to run over the agents who safely lunged from the path of the vehicle, according to Wiley.
A nearby “cover” agent pursued the vehicle as York and Jones fled, and during the chase Jones was observed tossing “crack” cocaine from the vehicle, Wiley said. Jones and York were both taken into custody on Joe Sevario Road and Hwy. 933 where their vehicle was stopped.
A search of the suspect vehicle yielded a quantity of crack cocaine, a digital scale, a Smith and Wesson 38 caliber handgun, and five 38 rounds which were seized, the sheriff said. Agents also recovered a “baggy” with residue on the roadway that was allegedly thrown from the vehicle.
Jones is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted distribution of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, resisting an officer, illegal carrying of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and five bench warrants for failure to appear in court.
