Sheriff seeks help locating accused armed robber, kidnapper

Staff reports

Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley is asking for the public’s assistance in locating an accused fugitive following a robbery and kidnapping investigation in Darrow.

Wiley said in a release that authorities received a call on Aug. 19 from a hysterical female who said that her former boyfriend, Marcus Roane, had just forced his way into her home and beat her, threatening to kill her. She said he then stole her cell phone and over $150 cash, and while armed with a weapon, dragged her by the hair from her home.

The woman said she convinced Roane to allow her to drive her vehicle from the home, while he followed her to a certain destination, according to the release. The victim had an additional cell phone in her vehicle that she then used to phone 911, the release said.

A Gonzales Police Department officer located the suspect vehicle following the victim at which time Roane, driving a green Mustang, fled from authorities westbound on I-10 into Baton Rouge at speeds exceeding 100 hundred miles per hour, according to the release.

Authorities recovered the vehicle in Baton Rouge but have not located Roane, according to the release.

Ascension authorities have obtained arrest warrants for Roane, 32, of 2778 Pimpoernel, Baton Rouge for aggravated burglary, armed robbery with a firearm, armed robbery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, stalking, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm or carrying concealed weapon by persons convicted of certain felonies.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office at 621-INFO (4636) or Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP (7867).
