Man killed in train accident identified

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Col. Bobby Webre confirmed the identity of a Laplace man who was struck and killed in a train accident early Wednesday morning.

Bontrion Toliver, 24, of Laplace was struck by a train around 3:45 a.m. on Highway 73 at the railroad crossing, just south of Airline Highway in Prairieville.

Toliver was from Dallas, Texas, but had recently moved to the Laplace area with his family.

It is unclear why Toliver was in Prairieville, and there was no vehicle present at the scene.
