Man fatally struck by train early Wednesday morning

An unidentified man was struck and killed by a train at approximately 3:45 this morning, according to Lt. Col. Bobby Webre of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was struck by the train on Highway 73 at the railroad crossing, just south of Airline Highway in Gonzales.

“We do know that he is a black male with a medium build and appears to be between 25-35 years of age,” said Lt. Col. Webre.

Deputies did not locate any identification of the victim at the scene, and there is limited information at this time. Deputies are currently trying to identify the victim, added Lt. Col. Webre.
