Jim Cantore, The Weather Channel meteorologist best known for showing up where extreme weather is heading, was claimed as the "newest Cougar fan" this week.

Cantore has been in Breaux Bridge awaiting the arrival of Hurricane Delta, which is expected to make landfall in southwest Louisiana Friday evening and impact much of Acadiana.

"There's a standing joke, especially around here, that if you see Jim Cantore in your town, you better pack up and leave," said Mitra Trahan, who lives and works in the St. Martin Parish town.

Trahan, a St. Thomas More Catholic High parent, spotted the notorious reporter in downtown Breaux Bridge when arriving at work at an accounting firm Thursday.

"I went to work, and they were in our front yard," Trahan said about Cantore and his camera crew. "I went out to say hi and offer him our bathrooms."

She happened to be wearing an STM Cougars shirt, representing the school her son Ty attends rather than her own alma mater. Trahan graduated from the rival school in town, Teurlings Catholic High.

The cameraman on site, also a Teurlings grad, joked with Trahan about her Cougars shirt, and Cantore overheard and thought it was funny, she said.
