DOC, St. Gabriel Police investigate report of rape at Elayn Hunt

The alleged rape of a female prison guard at Elayn Hunt Correctional Center remains under investigation by the St. Gabriel Police Department and the state Department of Corrections.

The investigation stems from the arrest of inmate Erick Dehart, 29, who was charged with one count of aggravated rape. The incident occurred in a cellblock about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

He is accused of raping the guard at knifepoint, according to St. Gabriel Police.

She was the only guard in the prison dormitory at the time of the alleged incident.

Dehart is serving a 30-year sentence for an armed robbery out of Terrebonne Parish, along with the five-year jail term for a charge of simple burglary in Lafourche Parish.

He is serving the terms consecutively.

Dehart will be transferred to Louisiana State Penitentiary.

No additional information will be released at the present time, “pending the investigation, and out of respect for the officer and her family,” according to officials.

The state Department of Corrections is providing the officer crisis counseling and emotional support, according to the DOC.
