APSO identifies body found in St. Amant canal

December 12, 4:30 p.m. UPDATE:
According to Sheriff Bobby Webre, detectives have identified the body found floating in a canal in St. Amant on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The person has been identified as 52-year-old Lisha Babin of Gonzales.
The cause of death is still unknown but there were no signs of injury or trauma. Detectives are now waiting on a toxicology report.
December 4, ORIGINAL STORY:
Yesterday evening a woman's body was found in St. Amant, floating in the canal that follows Highway 431.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reached out to the media this morning.
An email from Public Information Officer Allison Hudson stated: "We have no further updates regarding the woman whose body was found in the canal on yesterday evening.
"Once my detectives can get additional information, I will release all details known at that time. Unfortunately I cannot give a time frame of when that information will be available but soon as it is I will release it."
People have reached out to the Weekly Citizen to gain more knowledge about the event, like the name of the person who was found dead. As soon as we get an update on the story, we will say more.
