Two local sports teams were presented Certificates of Recognition. The Louisiana Jaguars Basketball Team and the Ascension Flight 2006 Girls Soccer Team were both recognized for their accomplishments during the season.

Additionally, there was a proclamation to proclaim August 15, as Jason Williams Day in Ascension Parish. Jason Williams was recently elected to the Louisiana State University Hall of Fame. His baseball career began in Ascension Parish and expanded to Louisiana State University, the 1996 Olympics, and the Cincinnati Reds.

Based on the Personnel Committee's recommendation, there was a proposal passed to establish a new board for animal services in Ascension Parish. Highlights of the bylaws include changing the name from Animal Control to Animal Services.

Their responsibility will be to ensure that tax dollars are appropriately spent, discuss animal matters and make recommendations to the parish. Their vision and mission will be to balance the health, welfare, and needs of the people and animals in the parish.

The council received a $32,847 dollar Emergency Management Performance grant.
