Quaker State shooting suspect apprehended
Gonzales Police said that at 11:03 a.m. on Sunday, July 1, Gonzales Patrol Officers were dispatched after a call was made to report shots fired in the parking lot of Quaker State and Lube at 2706 S Cabelas Parkway.
A report reads that officers arrived and found a gunshot victim with multiple gunshot wounds across the street of the shooting incident at Springhill Suites.
The victim was stabilized, and after being transported to a local hospital, they were airlifted to another hospital where their condition was explained as "stable but critical."
The suspect was stopped by a Gonzales Officer whom was responding to the area. The report says the suspect was attempting to flee the scene westbound on Interstate 10.
The suspect and a female companion were taken into custody with incident.
The suspect identified was identified as 34-year-old James Batiste of 40499 W. Hernandez Avenue in Prairieville.
He was formally arrested by investigators on one count of attempted second degree murder and two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property. The latter stems from two vehicles that received damage from the gunfire allegedly committed by Batiste.
Moreover, investigators are still working on a motive for the shooting. Batiste was reportedly not cooperating with investigators.
However, he is being processed on those charges Gonzales Police are having Batiste transported to Ascension Parish Prison. Anyone with any information surrounding the shooting should call the police.
