Emergency responders speak to Ascension Community Advisory Panel
St. Amant Fire Chief James E. LeBlanc, who is also the Chairman of Ascension Fire Dist. #1 and the Chairman of the Chemical Association (CAER Group) Community Awareness Emergency Response teamed up with Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bobby Weber, Major Cody Melancon, who heads up the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Haz-Mat Team, Chris Browning, who heads up the (IMAG Team) Industrial Mutual Aid Group, and Dustin Montelius Operations Section Chief of the Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security to give a presentation on Community Emergency Response and Mutual Aid to the Ascension Parish Community Advisory Panel in Gonzales.
"Ascension Parish Chemical companies want to do for Ascension Parish Residents what Ascension Parish residents do for local Ascension Parish industry – be good neighbors," Chief LeBlanc said. "Ascension CAER companies take their cue about being good neighbors from local residents. Community involvement means more than giving time and money to local community and charitable projects. CAER Industrial Companies want to continue to be involved in this community, hire local residents whenever possible, and listen to what residents think would make their communities even better.
"The Ascension Community Advisory Panel is a very important opportunity for local Industry to continue to share information with neighbors and the community. These community groups discuss topics regarding process safety, environmental issues, and site and community activities. Local Industrial Site Leaders from the 33 Chemical Facilities in Ascension and other members of the community attend these meetings," LeBlanc said.
The purpose of the Ascension Parish Community Advisory Panel (CAP) is to improve and promote communication between schools, churches, local residents, and public agencies to increase community awareness in Emergency Response with our Industrial Facilities.
"The local industrial facilities are aware of the particular responsibility they have towards our local communities," LeBlanc said. "This Community Advisory Panel helps the Industrial Facilities to engage openly with our neighbors in various forms of neighborhood dialogs."
