David Williams is charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile

A Gonzales man is behind bars after a Snapchat video showed his child's hands duct taped together.

Lt. Steven Nethkin of the Gonzales Police Department said on April 23 the department was notified of the video by the state Department of Children and Family Services. The 15-month-old infant had reportedly been bound with duct tape while in the care of his biological father, David Williams III, 24, of Gonzales.

The incident was recorded by the biological father, posted to social media, and described as “what to do with an unruly child”. Investigators with Gonzales Police were able to secure the video from the biological mother after she had reported the incident to DCFS shortly after the incident occurred, on or about March 20, 2018.

Nethkin said the child's biological parents do not live together. The mother was reportedly working late and left the infant in the care of the father, assuming he was capable of caring for the child while she was at work.

The 15 month old child was removed from the home after the posting of the video by the biological mother that same night in March, hours after the posting of the video to social media witnessed by the mother. The child reportedly obtained abrasions and redness in the areas where the tape had been applied. Police say the child has not been left with the father since the incident.

After the issuance of the arrest warrant, Williams complied with Investigators request for an

interview relative to his actions and culpability in connection with the child being bound with duct

tape. Williams arrived at the Gonzales Police Department on the evening of May 9, 2018. The suspect was interviewed and ultimately arrested relative to his actions regarding his treatment of the child.

Nethkin said throughout the course of police interviews, there was no indication that the father had a history of this kind of behavior. Williams told police the video was meant as a joke and that he had no malicious intent.

Williams was charged with one count of cruelty to a juvenile. He was transported and booked into the Ascension Parish prison with a bond that has been set at $500,000.00.
