The new Prairieville location of Baton Rouge Physical Therapy-Lake is open for business. The brand new 5,400-square foot facility is located on Commerce Centre Drive, just behind Gold's Gym on Airline.

BRPT-Lake was previously located in a St. Elizabeth's facility just down the road. The move to the new location comes with an expanded facility and growing staff. Senior vice president Gus Gutierrez noted that BRPT-Lake has been in Ascension Parish since 1986, and this new facility marks the next chapter in their service to the area.

"Just trying to keep up with the demands of the parish, we felt like we needed more space," said Gutierrez.

The ribbon cutting was preceded by a blessing of the new building by a local priest. Once blessed, the Ascension Chamber of Commerce was on hand with the ribbon to officially welcome BRPT-Lake to its new location. Clinical director Keith Fogle said the out-patient physical therapy center offers services to help patients with a variety of issues.

"Primarily we specialize in the orthopedic realm," said Fogle. "We see people from age 6 on up to 106."

Thanks to a recent law from the state legislature, patients no longer need a referral from a physician to begin physical therapy. Fogle said that direct access means that if someone is injured or dealing with persistent pain, that person can come right in and get the treatment he or she needs.

"What that does is get people in the door sooner, we see more acutely the problem - that means it doesn't become subacute or chronic - and when that happens you can get people better faster," said Fogle.

Fogle added that if the staff at BRPT-Lake can't assist, they can refer patients to the appropriate provider. The Commerce Centre Drive location is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m, and from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Fridays. Call 225-313-3553 to schedule your appointment today.
