Unrestrained Metairie man dies after being ejected in Ascension Parish

Shortly after 1:00 am on March 29, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash on Interstate 10 westbound west of LA 30 in Ascension Parish. The crash to the life of 28 year old Jefferson Andino of Metairie.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 40-year-old Charles Carter Jr. of New Orleans was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2011 Porche Cayenne. At the same time, 32 year old Elner Medina of Terrytown was also traveling westbound on Interstate 10 in a 2004 Ford Explorer. For reasons still under investigation, Carter struck the rear of Medina’s vehicle. Medina’s vehicle traveled into the median after impact and began to overturn. Medina, Andino, and the three additional occupants in the Explorer were all unrestrained and ejected during the crash.

Andino sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. Medina and his surviving passengers were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. Carter was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Impairment is suspected to be a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
