The Ascension Parish Assessor's Office released a notice this week congratulating Lisa Jones for gaining certification through the International Association of Assessing Offices (IAAO).

Lisa is the latest Assessor’s Office deputy to gain certification. The report adds that Jones passed through the leading training and learning organization for assessment professionals worldwide.

"Becoming a Certified Louisiana Deputy Assessor is an achievement that is not without merit," states the news release. "The coursework set out by the IAAO ensures competency in a wide range of matters covering property valuation for tax purposes, property tax administration, and property tax policy. While there are several certifications and designations available, each entails intense educational and examination requirements. Earning an IAAO certification demonstrates the highest level of professionalism available in the field of appraising."

Lisa is a thirteen year veteran of the Assessor’s Office. It is said that she was "born" into the Ascension Parish Assessor's Office (APAO) family. Her mother, Judy Hidalgo, retired from APAO after thirty-three years of service.

"In essence," states the news release, "Lisa has been a part of the Assessor’s Office family her whole life, and her employment there denotes a noble rite of passage into public service."

Lisa serves as a deputy in the Appraisal Department.

“I am very proud of Lisa earning her Certification," Assessor Mert Smiley said. "It takes a lot of dedication to reach this level in her career. At the Ascension Parish Assessor’s Office, training is very important because of the ever changing assessment criteria.”
