The first task order for Move Ascension has been issued, according to Parish President Kenny Matassa. The announcement comes after the Parish Council approved Matassa's proposal to widen Roddy Road in the hopes of improving safety and alleviating congestion in the area.

The order was issued to T. Baker Smith, LLC to widen Roddy Road from Highway 935 to Highway 261. The project includes three left-turn lanes at the 935 intersection, four left-turn lanes and one right-turn lane at the 621 intersection, and a bridge replacement over Black Bayou. The three projects are expected to cost about $600,000.

The widening comes as part of the Move Ascension initiative to improve highways around Gonzales and in the northern part of the parish. Parish officials budgeted $35 million from reserve funds, traffic impact fees, and new bond issues. Matassa notes these improvements will come at no additional cost to taxpayers.

Other proposals in the transportation package include roundabouts on Roddy Road, upgrades to Henry road, and a connecter road from Ashland Road to Edenborne Parkway. For more info on T. Baker Smith, LLC visit
