Statement on Hurricane Harvey

Bishop Robert W. Muench, Bishop of the Diocese of Baton Rouge

We in the Diocese of Baton Rouge extend our hearts and prayers to all devastated by the path of Hurricane Harvey. We ourselves are well experienced with the devastation national disasters can bring to life, property, livelihood and security, and we identify and empathize with those so affected.

Arrangements will be made to offer financial as well as continuing spiritual support to show our solidarity with you and our commitment to assist in your recovery to the best of our ability.

In the midst of this great hardship, let us recall the words of St. Paul: “Since we have this ministry through the mercy shown us, we are not discouraged... We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not abandoned, struck down, but not destroyed. For this momentary...affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to what is seen, but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4: 1b, 8-9, 16-18).
