'A Better Ascension' released the first round of public meetings the organization will be hosting on Wednesday. The event schedule is as follows:

Prairieville Meeting Aug. 21 - 6:00 p.m. - Sammy’s Grill

Donaldsonville Meeting Aug. 24 - 6:30 p.m. - Church of Donaldsonville

Gonzales/St. Amant Meeting Aug. 29 - 6:00 p.m. - City Room

We believe our proposed charter amendments will make the Ascension government more effective, in addition to making our parish a better place in which to live,” said Jamie Bourgeois, ‘A Better Ascension’ board member. “We look forward to meeting with our neighbors throughout Ascension to present our amendments and, more importantly, to listen to their feedback.”

The meetings will be the first round of public hearings hosted by ‘A Better Ascension.’ They will be held in addition to the meetings hosted by the Ascension Parish Council. In total, there are seven public meetings currently scheduled or being scheduled in order to discuss the proposed amendments.

This form of government has a clear record of success,” said Pat Bourque, ‘A Better Ascension’ board member. “From Philomath, Oregon to Cutler Bay, Florida, we have examples showing how professional managers have improved the traffic, safety, and finances in numerous communities. We are excited to share these stories with those in our Ascension community.”

The ‘A Better Ascension’ board plans to present the proposed amendments, data showing how the Council-Manager form of government would benefit Ascension Parish, success stories from communities who utilize the Council-Manager form of government, and the process of approving the charter amendments. A question and answer session will be held after the presentation. The ‘A Better Ascension’ board is inviting all Ascension Parish citizens, as well as any media personnel, to attend the hearings.

We want to hear your feedback,” said Brandon Trosclair, ‘A Better Ascension’ board member. “This is a change that will positively affect Ascension for generations to come. We want the support and buy-in of the community.”
