Expo, sock hop draws in large crowd

Senior citizens in Ascension Parish were treated to a full day of activities last Friday, beginning with the annual Young at Heart Senior Health & Wellness Expo, hosted by St. Elizabeth and the Ascension Council on Aging, followed by the monthly Garney Gautreau Senior Sock Hop.

The expo, geared towards seniors 55 and older and their caregivers, offered a number of free screenings such as hearing, cholesterol, heart and glucose, along with wellness and health resources from over 50 businesses and organizations ranging from banks to rehabilitation centers to various medical centers.

“We are proud to be able to bring such a wonderful event to the senior population of Ascension Parish," said Jacob Balfantz, Marketing Specialist at St. Elizabeth Hospital."With a growing senior population, it is our goal to provide education, information, and screenings to help seniors thrive in our community."

More than 200 people gathered for the sock hop where attendees were treated to lunch and a day filled with dancing.
