Vacuum truck overturns on Hwy 74
On the afternoon of March 8, an accident occurred when Torrean Montgomery, 25, overturned a large vacuum truck at the intersection of Hwy 73 and Hwy 74.
A witness claimed that Montgomery was not taking the turn at a high speed. Other than normal automobile fluids left on the street, nothing spilt was deemed dangerous by the Geismar Volunteer Fire Department, who were the first responders.
"The vacuum truck was going too fast," Geismar Fireman Dustin Stallings said. "You can see the skid marks, and he flipped it."
Things may have been worse, but whatever chemical the truck was holding had just been dropped off, according to another Geismar fireman. Other than appearing somber and achey the driver was not injured badly.
"He's fine," Stallings said.
Montgomery, a driver for Thompson Industrial, was ticketed by the Louisiana State Police. APSO was also on the scene to help guide traffic, which was building up for school pickup around the corner. Guy's Towing of Baton Rouge was on the scene preparing to move the vehicle.
