Four arrested in connection with two-hour standoff in St. Amant Tuesday night
Leo Haymond III and Chelsie Breaux were taken into custody after a two-hour standoff at a residence on La. 936 in St. Amant Tuesday evening, Jan. 3, according to Chief Deputy Bobby Webre.
Haymond was wanted by the US Marshal’s Office for a federal probation violation and held several active warrants for the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office dating back to November 2016.
Shortly after 5 p.m., the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Team surrounded the residence that Haymond and Breaux barricaded themselves in and attempted to negotiate their surrender. At approximately 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night, both Haymond and Breaux walked out of the residence and were arrested without incident.
Narcotics Detectives searched the residence and located a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana and a handgun, Webre added.
Earlier Tuesday morning, deputies received a tip that Haymond was at a residence on L.V. Road in Sorrento. Deputies, along with the U.S. Marshal’s, went to the residence in attempt to arrest Haymond on the outstanding warrants and observed two pit bull dogs, owned by Haymond, that appeared malnourished and without food in the front yard. Deputies attempted to make contact with Haymond but he fled on foot into the woods. Deputies located two other subjects in the residence, later identified as Henry Christian, 48, of Gonzales and 32-year-old Jessica Rogers of New Orleans. A quantity of marijuana, heroin and other drug paraphernalia was located inside the residence and both Christian and Rogers were arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substances, and illegal carry of weapons and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
On Nov. 23, 2016, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle that was driven at a high rate of speed by Haymond on St. Patrick St. in Donaldsonville. After a short pursuit the vehicle crashed and Haymond fled on foot away from deputies. The deputies began to check the vehicle and located several stolen items, a loaded handgun, a quantity of marijuana, a quantity of cocaine, and two digital scales, Webre said.
