Ascension Veterans to honor fallen soldiers, Monday

On Monday, May 30, the Ascension Veterans Memorial Park Committee will host a Memorial Day observance at 10 a.m. in the Veterans Park, 612 S. Irma Blvd. in Gonzales.

Organizers said that they expect hundreds of attendees will gather around the park amphitheater to remember those soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country so that we may continue to live our lives in freedom.

Local organizations participating in the event included the American Legion Post 81 and Auxiliary, St. Amant High School Navy JROTC, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 725 and Associate Members, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3693 and Auxiliary, Women Veterans of Louisiana, Gonzales Police Department, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Choirs from St Amant, Dutchtown and East Ascension High Schools.

Refreshments will be provided after the ceremony by Jimmy Johns and Ascension Funeral Home.
