National Service Recognition Day announced

     Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa has proclaimed April 5, 2016 as “National Service Recognition Day” in Ascension Parish.

     Matassa presented the proclamation on April 1 to members of the Foster Grandparent Program, a program of the Quad Area Community Action Agency (CAA). The members were visiting President Matassa at the new Ascension Parish Governmental Complex on Worthey Road.

     Foster Grandparent volunteers assist children under the age of 18 with education and social development, while helping to improve physical and mental development. Volunteers serve 20 hours per week on a one-to-one basis.

     The Quad Area CAA serves the parishes of Ascension, Livingston, Washington, Tangipahoa, St. Helena, East Feliciana and West Feliciana

     Sandra Cavalier, director of the Foster Grandparent Program, said there are 12 volunteers serving in Ascension Parish in the public schools and the Head Start Center.
