Go to a book lecture: The Ascenion Parish Library in Galvez is hosting a book lecture on Feb. 25. Dr. Cassandra Chaney, Associate Professor at LSU School of Social Work, will discuss some of the greatest challenged black families in America are facing. Registration required. (225) 622-3339.

Buy a chicken dinner: The Sorrento Lions Club is hosting a chicken dinner fundraiser on Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ryan's Family Grocery, 9283 Airline Highway, Sorrento. Plates are $7 and include chicken, dirty rice, green beans, bread and dessert. Email sorrentolionsclub@ gmail.com for tickets. All proceeds will support the Lions Club.
