Ascension Parish candidates attend Sorrento Council Meeting

SORRENTO – Sorrento council held its regular meeting Oct. 20. Absent from the meeting was Councilwoman Wanda Bourgeois and Councilman Randy Anny.
Parish President candidates Ricky Diggs, Chris Loar, Kenny Matassa, and Clint Cointment attended the meeting where they discussed their platforms. Assessor candidate Mert Smiley and council candidates William “Bill” Dawson and Philip Goppelt also spoke during the meeting.
Senator Eddie Lambert was scheduled to attend the meeting, though he could not make it and rescheduled for the Nov. 17 meeting.
A resolution was passed for state appropriation for the Sorrento Community Center, estimating at $169,000.
An animal control ordinance was introduced to adopt the current animal ordinance of Ascension Parish.
Trick-or-Treat will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Mayor Lambert noted that the he intends to hire two more officers for Halloween night, working from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Councilman Donald Schexnaydre discussed with the council several complaints of not having children at play signs on Robert St, which the council approved the addition of two new signs on Robert St.
Mayor Lambert added that Sorrento received 17 police and portable radios that have been converted to the town frequencies for use in case of emergencies or special events.
