On October 16, Stem Gems at GOPS learned about the five main layers of the Ocean. After learning about the five main layers and the importance of each to the environment, they then did a science experiment to create the 5 layers. Alsie Dunbar, founder of Stem Gems mentoring project, meets bi-monthly with the 4th and 5th grade girls at GOPS to develop their interests in math, science and engineering principles to peak their interest in pursuing STEM related careers and academics.
