Crash investigation leads to arrest of driver on multiple charges

On February 15, City of Gonzales Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of N. Airline Hwy and E. Ascension St. in reference to a two vehicle crash. Upon completion of the investigation, it has been found that the driver of a 2001 GMC Yukon, Lucero Dominquez, was at fault due to running a red light on Airline Hwy. and speeding.

Dominquez ran the red light at the intersection and struck the side of a 2013 Nissan Altima. All four ocOn February 15, City of Gonzales Police Department officers were dispatched to the area of N. Dominquez ran the red light at the intersection and struck the side of a 2013 Nissan Altima. All four occupants of the Nissan Altima were sent to the hospital by ambulance, with the driver, Joey McClendon, succumbing to his injuries and passing away.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of Dominquez on one count of negligent homicide, three counts of negligent injuring, one count of speeding and one count of traffic control signals/red light.

On June 5, Lucero was arrested at her residence, 15492 Palmetto Lane, Prairieville, by deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. She was then transported to the City of Gonzales Police Department and taken into custody by Gonzales Police officers.

Lucero, 28, has been booked into, and remains in, the Ascension Parish Jail. Her misdemeanor bonds have been set at $1,268.50, and she is awaiting the setting of her bond for the negligent homicide charge.
