An ultralight aircraft went down shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening in the Diversion Canal with no injuries, according to Sheriff Jeff Wiley.

A neighbor called dispatch to report the incident when the aircraft hit the water across from a residence in the eleven thousand block of River Highlands Road. The pilot, who has not been identified, noticed something wrong with the aircraft and immediately went down. He was not injured in the crash, added Sheriff Wiley.

Emergency crews were able to pull the aircraft out of the water and to a nearby residence.

It is unclear if the aircraft sustained any injuries.

Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the scene but later realized the incident happened in Ascension Parish and deputies took over the investigation.

An ultralight aircraft is a lightweight single seat aircraft used for sport and recreation.
