St. Amant Volunteer Fire Dept. honors ’14, installs ’15 officers at banquet

The St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department hosted its 2015 Installation of Officers Banquet on March 7.

The St. Amant VFD first reviewed the 2014 and its successes, which included:  16 years in a row of collecting toys at Christmas time for needy families, 16 years in a row of providing candy and training exercises for children on Halloween Night at the fire station, 10 years in a row providing pictures with Santa Clause for FREE at the fire station, 10 years in a row providing Thanksgiving Basket to ten St. Amant families, built several handy cap ramps in the area for needy families, providing fire prevention tips for schools, Day Care Centers and Churches throughout the year, and many others.

Ascension Parish Assessor M.J. “Mert” Smiley spoke as the special speaker for the evening, while several other dignitaries such as State Representative Johnny Berthelot, Parish Councilman Chris Loar, Parish Councilman Randy Clouatre Sr., Ascension Clerk of Court Bridget Hanna, Walter Leftwich chairman of Fire District no. 3, Col. Bobby Weber of Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Jeff Wiley of Ascension Parish Sheriff, and Ken Spivey, Chaplain of St. Amant Fire Department.

The fire department’s Chief James E. LeBlanc awarded the 2014 Community Award to PotAsh Corporation. PotAsh Corp donated over $638,000 to the Parish of Ascension’s various entities and organizations, including $40,000 to the St. Amant VFD to purchase a fireboat for the Diversion Canal Response.

Gary Hiebert, Human Resource Director, Misty Bonfanti, Assistant Human Resource Director, and Chase Stogner, Emergency Response Director, all attended the banquet to receive the award on behalf of PotAsh Corp.

St. Amant VFD also presented the following with Service Awards:

Five Years - Stacey Denham, Chris Derocher, John C. Hebert, Dane P. LeBlanc, Dexter S. LeBlanc, Joel Louque, Josh Moran, Justin Pauler, Christine Wilson.

Ten Years - Jeremy Duhe, Bryant Troxler, Eugene R. Witek.

Fifteen Years - Coy Moran, Josh Wingerter.

Twenty Years - Todd Bourgeois.

Twenty-Five Years - Troy D. Richardson.

Thirty Years - Shane Pourciau.
