ASPO looking for Prairieville man for theft

Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for 27-year-old Melvin Cox Jr. who is wanted for theft, according to Major Kevin Hanna.

In February detectives received a tip that Cox was responsible for a number of thefts in the Prairieville area.

As detectives were following up on the information they discovered several 3-wheelers and a 4-wheeler behind Cox’s home. As the investigation unfolded detectives’ identified the 3-wheelers and 4-wheeler as stolen.

Arrest warrants were obtained for the stolen ATV’s and authorities began searching for Cox. On March 11 after authorities located Cox walking on Norwood Road in Prairieville they attempted to take him into custody when he fled on foot.

Melvin Cox Jr., of 41152 Merritt Evans Road, Prairieville, is wanted for three counts of theft and three counts of criminal trespass.
