Friday at 5 p.m. was the cut off time. If no one sought to qualify for the Gonzales Council Division E seat, then the registrar would have to deem Neal Bourque as the man for the job. The time came and passed. Bourque will serve as the Division E seat councilman.

“This has been a very humbling experience,” Bourque said. “The great reception we received going door to door, the signs we were allowed to put up, the kind words of encouragement, the trust the people placed in us was very overwhelming.”

Bourque replaces originally councilman Gary Lacombe, and now David Guitreau who was appointed to serve on the council. Bourque said he looks forward to working with the council, the newly city attorney in Erin Lanoux, the chief of police, and “all the staff and hardworking, dedicated people working for this great city.”

“I consider it a privilege and a honor to help our mayor as we strive to make the future of Gonzales loved by our citizens, prosperous for all and proud to be called home,” Bourque said. “I will always do my best and never betray the trust that our citizens have placed in me.”

Bourque, was an active volunteer with the SaveGonzales recall effort against two Gonzales city councilmen Lacombe and Tim Vessel.
