St. Francisville –Shortly after 2 p.m. on January 20, 2015, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on US Hwy 61 north of LA Hwy 10 in West Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 73-year-old Felix Lipoma of Gonzales, LA.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 67-year-old John L. McDonald of Woodville, MS. was driving a 1979 Peterbilt tractor-trailer northbound on US Hwy 61. As McDonald was traveling northbound in the right hand lane, Lipoma pulled out of a private drive in a 2001 GMC pickup truck to travel northbound on US Hwy 61. Upon doing so, the GMC struck the rear wheels of the trailer, causing the GMC to overturn several times before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway.

Despite the fact that he was properly restrained, Lipoma suffered moderate injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene to West Feliciana Parish Hospital in St. Francisville where he was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel. McDonald was properly restrained and was uninjured in the crash. Impairment is not considered to have been a factor in the crash on the part of either driver.

Troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving at all times. Never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued, and always remain buckled up regardless of seating position. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Always obey all traffic control devices and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
