Gonzales officers arrest man for sixth DWI after he drives into building

Gonzales Police officers initiated contact with Willie Evans, 62, of 14066 Bert Allen Rd., Gonzales, after he failed to stop for a stop sign and drove his vehicle into a building on Thursday, Dec. 11.

An investigation revealed that Evans was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban on South Lanoux Avenue at a high rate of speed. Evans failed to stop for the stop sign located at the intersection of South Lanoux Avenue and West Orice Roth Road. Evans crossed over West Orice Roth Road leaving the roadway and driving into the north wall of 1619 Philippe Avenue.

Upon making contact with Evans, officers observed signs of impairment. Evans admitted to being under the influence of prescription medication and consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the crash.

Upon completion of a criminal investigation, Evans was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on charges of driving under the influence, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and driving with no driver license.

This is Evans’ sixth arrest for driving under the influence.
