APSO arrests three for burglary in Prairieville

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to Searcher’s Supply and Outfitters located in Prairieville in reference to a burglary complaint on Sunday, Dec. 14, according to Chief Deputy Tony Bacala.

During the course of the investigation it was learned that a large amount of merchandise was taken from the business. Through an anonymous tip detectives learned that Derek Hayes, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile were involved in the burglary, added Chief Bacala.

Detectives were able to recovery most of the stolen merchandise and learned of a third person involved in the burglary, Matthew Peters, 18. Detectives located Peters and recovered the additional stolen property at his residence in French Settlement.

Additionally, Hayes and the juvenile confessed to being responsible for multiple thefts and burglaries throughout Ascension Parish and surrounding parishes in which property was also recovered.

Derek Hayes, 18, of 37051 Longwood Avenue, Prairieville, was arrested and charged with simple burglary, simple criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, theft, and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. His bond was set at $67,036.50; however he is still incarcerated at the Ascension Parish Jail.

Matthew Peters, 18, of 14455 Rue Des Chene, French Settlement, was arrested and charged with simple burglary, theft, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, criminal trespass, and simple criminal damage to property. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting bond.

The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with simple burglary, theft, criminal trespass, and simple criminal damage to property. He was booked into the Assumption Youth Detention Center.

Chief Bacala said that the other thefts are currently under investigation and additional charges are pending.
