DeRon Talley, Editor @DeRonTalley

The National Weather Service reports a widespread of freezing temperatures are expected Thursday night for Ascension Parish and surrounding areas.

A very cold airmass is on the way and this will lead to the coldest temperatures of the season so far. High temperatures are expected to only reach the mid 40s to mid 50s on Thursday and this could set the stage for a rather chilly night across much of the area with lows likely dropping below freezing along and north of the Interstate 10 and Interstate 12 corridor.

The Freeze Watch will remain in effect from Thursday evening through

Friday morning. Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid

20s to lower 30s overnight Thursday.

Freezing temperatures could persist for 1 to 8 Hours.

Tender vegetation needs to be protected while animals should be brought inside.

A freeze watch means sub-freezing temperatures are possible. These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. A freeze warning will be issued later today or tonight if forecast reasoning remains the same.
