Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced The Ascension Parish Recreation Department, the River Road African American Museum and the Ascension Parish Breast Cancer Awareness Committee will host a week of activities acknowledging October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“We don’t know how to prevent breast cancer, but there are things we can do to reduce the risk and things we can do to detect it early,” said Ajia Mitchell, program coordinator with the Ascension Parish Recreation Department and committee member. “Please join us for this informative and enlightening program supporting our communities’ breast cancer survivors.”

Mitchell said previous cancer awareness events in Donaldsonville have raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society. She said this year’s goal, along with fundraising, is to get at least 100 participants to join in the Donaldsonville Breast Cancer Awareness Week activities.
