Volunteer Positions Still Available for Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival
GONZALES – Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced this week volunteer positions are still available for the 2014 Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival on Sept. 26 and 27 at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.
“We still have about 25 spots left to fill,” said Volunteer Ascension Executive Director Sherry Denig, who is also a member of the festival organizing committee. “We’re still working hard to get those placed.”
Depending on the position, there are two-hour shifts, three-hour shifts and four-hour shifts available, Denig said.
After arriving at the festival, Denig said all registered volunteers must report to the Volunteer Sign-in tent outside the main festival gate 15 minutes prior to the start of their shift. Those registered will get checked in and receive a badge before getting instructions of where they are going and what they will be doing.
Denig said there are volunteer positions including gatekeepers who will check badges or stamps, as well as dining tent volunteers.
To sign up for volunteering at the Ascension Hot Air Balloon Festival, visit volunteerascension.volunteermatrix.com, or go to volunteerascension.org and click on the volunteer button.
“We’ve got so many people that are really trying to work it out to get their groups signed up,” Denig said. “We’re encouraging people to go ahead and get signed up and reserve a shift that works best for your group. You can always go back in and fill in specific names.”
Denig said after new volunteers register their basic information and email address on the matrix, they can go to the calendar and put their cursor over any of the volunteer opportunities and they will show what the volunteer position would do and how many positions are available. Slots that are filled will appear in red, she said.
“It’s pretty easy to use,” Denig said. “If you register and give your email address, the matrix will send you an email to remind you what time to report.
