Rotarians with 40, More Years Honored; Gonzales Rotary Hosts Annual Coaches Preview

At the August 12th meeting of the Gonzales Rotary, District 6200 Governor, Ezora Proctor, addressed Rotarians. Proctor recognized the Gonzales Rotary Club saying that the club is the main club in our area. “You are the club that gave start to the two others on the east side of Ascension Parish. This gives you a special responsibility as a model for the other clubs.” She exhorted Gonzales Rotarians to be active and support local, district, and zone activities.
Proctor noted that the Gonzales Rotary Club is special because it has and continues to do many wonderful things in the community. Among the events and fund raisers that the club executes, she noted the Gonzales Rotary Food Fest and Trick or Treat for Canned Goods which raises funds for the St. Theresa Bank, Stake in Education to raise money to support the Ascension Fund, the clubs work with High Heels for High Hopes for the March of Dimes, support of seniors through the clubs annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party and Dinner, and many more.
She graciously acknowledged the club’s success in recruiting eight new Rotarians since July and reviewed the district’s goal for the 2014-15 Rotary year.
The Gonzales Rotary’s annual coaches preview was held on August 20th at Carlico Cafe. Once again, this event proved to be very popular with many Rotarians and guest came to enjoy a wonderful meal and listen to the head coaches of all the area high school football teams.
It came as no surprise to anyone present that team pride remains high. This was evident in the many spirited questions asked by those attending. In spite of the good-natured rancor, participants remained respectful and were attentive.
Each coach gave his perspective on his team and its prospects for the coming season as well as some thoughts about the competition.
