Ascension Fire Departments Receive Insurance Rebate Checks

GONZALES – Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez distributed portions of a fire insurance premium rebate totaling $455,369.72 to fire departments across Ascension Parish last week.
The rebate amounts are based on a formula that was set by the state legislature in 1989, said Fire District 1 Chairman James LeBlanc. The annual payments represent funds collected from fees assessed on fire insurance premiums. The total amount that Ascension Parish received was calculated per capita and category value determined from the total parish population.
LeBlanc said the rebate money is used annually by the local fire departments to assist with paying monthly fire station expenses.
The Prairieville Volunteer Fire Department received the largest payment of $128,912.31, followed by Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department receiving $64,912.38.
