Parish employee arrested on theft of fuel charges

On July 7, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s detectives began investigating the theft of fuel from Ascension Parish Government. Detectives learned that Corey Richard, 36, was stealing fuel by use of a Parish Government fuel card, said Chief Deputy Tony Bacala.

Richard made unauthorized transactions using several different Parish Government fuel cards which are assigned to parish vehicles and equipment. Additionally, detectives are attempting to identify individuals that Richard was selling the fuel to.

As a result of an internal audit conducted by the Ascension Parish Government it was revealed that Richard had fraudulently charged $7,224.70 worth of fuel to the Parish Government’s fuel card’s just for the month of June, added Chief Bacala.

This case is still under investigation as the audit is still ongoing and the total loss of fuel could possibly exceed up to $50,000.

Corey Richard, 36, of 40492 Adele Road, Gonzales was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail where he was charged with felony theft of fuel, identity theft, and unauthorized use of access card as theft. His bond has been set at $80,000, but is still currently incarcerated.
