GONZALES – Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced officials with PotashCorp (PCS Nitrogen) in Geismar have committed to a corporate sponsorship of the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

“We really appreciate the relationship we have with PCS Nitrogen,” said President Martinez. “They have been a great corporate neighbor for many, many years and now they join with us in supporting the Lamar-Dixon facility.

PCS Nitrogen Human Resources Manager Garry L. Hiebert and Human Resources Specialist Misty Bonfanti presented President Martinez with a check for $25,000.

“We saw an opportunity to partner with Ascension Parish Government and try to help out,” Hiebert said. “We appreciate Ascension Parish and the work they do, especially during times of crisis. That’s why we gave this check and want them to use it to help the citizens.”

PotashCorp is the world’s largest fertilizer company by capacity. They produce the three primary crop nutrients – potash, phosphate and nitrogen. As the world’s leading potash producer, they are responsible for approximately 20 percent of global capacity.

With operations and business interests in seven countries, PotashCorp is an international enterprise and key player in meeting the growing challenge to feed the world. Their products help provide nutrients that plants need to grow. They are also used to make livestock feed and industrial goods.

Located near Interstate 10 and state Route 30 in Gonzales, the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center is a multi-use event facility that showcases a diverse range of entertainment including rodeos and equestrian events, trade shows, sporting shows, music concerts, weddings, antique shows and school fairs.

In 2009, the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center officially became an Ascension Parish-owned facility. Ascension Parish was able to purchase the facility through the use of grants and private donations, and without having to use local tax dollars.
