Leadership Ascension's CAPE Project

Leadership Ascension, an innovative program sponsored by the Ascension Chamber of Commerce, assists in preparing emerging community leaders for leadership positions in local government, business and community affairs. It teaches life lessons, leadership, teamwork, and how to better improve the overall community. The results-oriented program is directed by a steering committee of community leaders with the assistance of the Chamber staff. Each Leadership class divides into groups to develop a project for a specific group in a way to give back to the community.

The CAPE Project, which stands for Council on Aging for Progressive Evolution, is directly tied  with the Council on Aging (COA) for both the Donaldsonville and Gonzales locations in Ascension Parish. The  mission is to enhance & provide the essential necessities for our local Council on Aging and elderly with a program that will ensure their long term success.

The COA's mission is to provide directly or coordinate a full range of services available through State and Federal Agencies to the elderly of Ascension Parish. To create an atmosphere of respect for human life and affirm the dignity and self-worth of the older adult by providing a richer and more comfortable life and assisting them in remaining self-sufficient. Exercise, education, transportation, and meals are just some of the services COA offers the elderly in our community.

The CAPE Project is fundraising for outdoor seating and benches for the Donaldsonville complex as well as a display case for the Gonzales complex in order for Veterans to display their memorabilia. Members of the CAPE Project are: Beau Diez, Pelican Point; Crystal Boudloche, Re/Max Professional; Michelle Hyatt, Mary Bird Perkins; Layne Salvant, The Bug Man; Shane Sedotal, Cox Communications; Darryl Smith, Ascension Parish Sheriffs Office;  Ray Stonemark, Don's Seafood; Melissa Tullier, EATEL;  and Tracy Browning, Ascension Parish Tourism Commission
