Marketing Education Retail Alliance donates grant to St. Amant High

St. Amant High School Career and Technical teacher Rae Broussard received a $6,400 grant from the Marketing Education Retail Alliance to attend DECA conferences, competitions, and fund our school based enterprise. Marketing Education Retail Alliance was created in 2000 and is administered by the Louisiana Retailers Association. MERA grants are funded through the Louisiana Department of Economic Development. The most recent event attended was the DECA Career Development Conference better known as the DECA state competition.  As well as MERA, the Ascension Fund grant rewarded to Mrs. Broussard also allowed many students to attend CDC that otherwise couldn’t afford. Mrs. Broussard’s Ascension Fund grant was sponsored by Chester Diez.

At the CDC, St. Amant DECA chapter received many awards: Chapter campaign (thrive level) completed 3: Community Service, Promotional Campaign, Global Entrepreneurship week activities, Membership campaign, Outstanding advisor, and Outstanding chapter. After winning the State officer scholarship of $500, Clayton V., St. Amant’s current La. DECA State President was ready to pass the torch to Tiffany Barker, St. Amant High student and now Louisiana’s new Southern Region Vice President.

 After receiving chapter awards, the St. Amant DECA members were anxious to hear the individual/team awards from competition. Students competed in various marketing-related role plays, presentation, tests, and/or interviews. 23 students places in 16 events. Picking up first-place honors were Nicole Joyeux, Hannah Hall, McKenzie Hawkins, Clayton Villemarette and Mytrail Whitehead.  2nd place honors were Logan Ganaway, Camille LeBlanc, Luke Babin, Scout Savoy, Kase Savoy, Hannah Hall, Jade Sheets and Sierra Villar. 3rd place winners were Kase Savoy, Taylor Alberes, Hunter Bertrand, Tiffany Barker, Jailyn Wright, and Ambar Hicks. Finalists were Xavier Foster, Jailyn Wright, Kaitlin Biri, Joshua Kling, Anna Guillory, Beau Hill, Tiffany Barker, Reed Babin, Sierra Villar, Sable Englade, Raylie Bourgeois, Leeamber Perry, and Angele Guidry. Winning a $1000 scholarship to Johnson and Wales University was Taylor Alberes. $750 scholarship to Johnston and Wales University was Logan Ganaway. $500 scholarship winners were Taylor Alberes and Ambar Hicks.

St.Amant also received $500 to host a career fair. Organized by Claudia Gremellion, Rae Broussard, DECA members and business students, seniors had a chance to talk to colleges to learn more about their options and network with business professionals about future job opportunities.   

St. Amant DECA is very sad to be losing influential seniors Clayton Villemarette, Scout Savoy, Mytrail Whitehead, Ambar Hicks, Angele Guidry, and McKenzie Hawkins. St. Amant DECA will be attending ICDC May 2nd through May 7th in Atlanta, Georgia to compete against other DECA clubs from across the nation.
