PRAIRIEVILLE – Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez announced Monday several parish roads have been barricaded due to backwater flooding.

Parish department of public works officials said crews are monitoring roads along Bayou Manchac and the Amite River. They have put up barricades at Airport Drive, Kay Drive and Idle Hour Road following increased water levels in those areas.

According to the National Weather Service website, the Amite River at Port Vincent is projected to crest at 5 feet, 9 inches on Tuesday at 6 a.m. Flood stage at that location is 8 feet.

Airport Drive is located off of Summerfield Road South and south east of the LA 42/LA 431 intersection.

Kay Drive and Idle Hour Road both run north off of LA 42, west of the LA 42/LA 933 intersection.

Crews will continue monitoring the roads for possible backwater flooding, said Assistant Department of Public Works Director Johnny Richardson.
