Fugitive wanted for Friday evening shooting

Ascension Parish Major of Criminal Operations Kevin Hanna is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a fugitive for Ascension Parish.
On July 27, 2012 at approximately 6 pm Matthew Paul “Smokey” Simon, 32, opened fire on a vehicle that was parked at Bay Wash Carwash located on Highway 42 in Prairieville. Simons intended target was an ex-boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. There were two other occupants also in the vehicle of the intended target. During the shooting a passing motorist’s vehicle on Highway 42, also occupied by three occupants, was struck. Fortunately, no one was struck in either vehicle, Hanna said.
At the time of the shooting Simon was driving a maroon truck similar to a Nissan Frontier or Titan. During the investigation it was also learned that Simon has access to a Nissan Versa with frontend damage.
Simon is described as 5” 11”, 190 lbs and believed to be armed and dangerous. He has no specific residency and is known to frequent Ascension Parish, Livingston, and East Baton Rouge Parish. Simon is wanted for 6 counts of attempted 1st degree murder, illegal use of a firearm, and aggravated criminal damage to property.
