The Ambassador Jefferson Caffery Collection. Born in Lafayette, Louisiana, Jefferson Caffery was a member of the first graduating class of the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute, which later became the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

As the US Ambassador to Egypt from 1949-1955, Caffery collected a variety of ancient artifacts while visiting several dig sights including the Valley Temple with Egyptologist, Dr. Ahmed Fakhry, and President Nasser of Egypt. The collected artifacts range in age from the first Dynasty (over 5000 years ago) to the 25th Dynasty. The collection has been in storage for over twenty years and has never been exhibited to the public in its entirety.

The Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum is proud to present Finding Egypt in Louisiana: the Ambassador Caffery Collection, which includes over 40 artifacts from Ancient Egypt.
